I had a fantastic Birthday Celebration.

Posted by on Saturday, 25 December, 2010

Thank you to everyone who attended my poetry birthday bash.   Special thanks to my daughters, Dawn and Eden, who provided the refreshments and to  my dear friend Betty Vlack who greeted guests as they arrived.  I also appreciated all the warm wishes from people who were not able to attend and the wonderful performances during “open mic.”

Keep A Poem In Your Pocket

Posted by on Monday, 5 April, 2010

April is national poetry month and Thursday, April 29, is National Poem In Your Pocket Day.  The idea is simple: some time this month pick a poem you love and then on the 29th, carry it with you to share with co-workers, family and friends.  You can make multiple copies to give out or simply share by reading it out loud. Even better, memorize your poem and share it. Text a poem to friends or send an e-mail.

Poem In Your Pocket Day has been celebrated each April in New York City since 2002.  Even the Mayor get in on the festivities, reading a poem on the radio.

A bit of history: Poems have been stowed in pockets in a variety of ways from the commonplace books of the Renaissance to the pocket-sized publications for the army soldiers in World War II.

www.poets.org is a great source for poems.

Keep A Poem In Your Pocket
by Beatrice Schenk de Regniers

Keep a poem in your pocket
And a picture in your head
And you’ll never feel lonely
At night when you’re in bed.

The little poem will sing to you
The little poem bring to you
A dozen dreams to dance to you
At night when you’re in bed.

So…
Keep a picture in your pocket
And a poem in your head
And you’ll never feel lonely
At night when you’re in bed.
